The best carp hooks

Carp hooks are one of the most important parts of your rig since this is litterly the point what connects you to the carp. But which hook do you buy in what circumstances as there are many different types of carp hooks. A number of commonly used hooks include the wide gape, kurve shank and the chod.
Below an explanation of these 3 most used hooks for carp fishing.

Wide gape

A hook with a very wide hook angle so that there is a large opening to the hook shank. This hook is very strong and can be used with many different rigs. You can also attach a larger boilie here with a smaller hook.

Kurve shank

A hook with a curved hook angle that makes it harder to hook the fish than for example a wide gape hook. However, once the fish is hooked, it will be very difficult to lose the hook due to the curved shape of the curve shank.

Chod

A chod hook has an hook guide which is bended from the shaf (so to the outside) which makes it work very well with stiff rigs, such as fluorocarbon or coated hooklinks. A chod hook is often used for fishing in combination with a pop up.

Pay attention when choosing your hook size. A hook size 6 is the most all-round. When you fish with a big boilie, choose a slightly larger hook and a smaller hook with a small boilie. Keep in mind that the smaller the hook size, the bigger the hook. So hook size 1 is a very large hook.
