Spinning rods

Spinning rods

Perhaps the most used rod for predatory fishing is the spinning rod. A spinning rod is made for casting with plugs, softbaits or spinners with a mill. If you want to go fishing with a reel, then a spinning rod is not suitable and you have to take a baitcaster. You have spinning rods in many lengths and casting weight, but what is the best spinning rod for you? The use of the spinning rod is very wide, it is even used for other fish than the predatory fish.

Perch and trout

For the small predatory fish such as perch and trout, people often use small lures. That is why you need a low casting weight of somewhere between 2 to 25 grams. You also often need a short spinning rod of 150 to 210 cm. Use a small grinder of size 500 to 1500 with a thin line.

Allround

Do you really want to fish for more fish and different lures? Then a spinning rod of between 210 cm up to 270 cm is the most suitable. As a throw weight you have to think from 20 to about 60 grams. With this all-round spinning rod you can then fish for pike, zander, big perch and roofblei. Choose a reel of approximately size 200 to 3000. You can use both nylon and braided line, but a braided line is often preferred.

Big predatory fish

If you want to fish mainly on pike or at sea with large lures, you need a long spinning rod of at least 270 cm and a casting weight of at least 60 grams. Also take a stronger mill with enough line capacity, at least 4000 with a sturdy braided line of at least 0.14mm.

The above explanation is of course not a fixed rule. When casting long distances, a longer spinning rod is best, for example from the side. And especially if you fish with light lures, it is especially important that you have a low casting weight. Do you fish on a boat? Then a short rod is often more practical.
