Carp underlines are made of different materials. The most commonly used is of course the normal braided underline but nowadays there are also coated underlines and fluorocarbon is also widely used.

Braided underline

The most commonly used underline material. This line is very strong but also very supple. Because it is braided you can use this line in a thin diameter which makes it less conspicuous.

Coated bottom line

Actually exactly the same as above however the braided line is coated which makes it stiffer and so it can be fished in a different way. It is also very abrasion resistant due to the coating.

Fluorocarbon

The material for the chod rig or stiff rigs. It's almost invisible underwater. A disadvantage is that it is very stiff and therefore difficult to knot.
