Almost every carp angler knows what it is like to walk long distances to the waterfront with all your carp equipment, it is very heavy. That is why special transport carts, also called carp trolly or barrow. But why are they called carp barrow? In the world of fishing tackle there are also many kinds of barrows for different ways of fishing. The carp barrow is special in its kind, firstly because of its size. Other fishing barrows are smaller for just transporting a seat box or an other large, single item. The carp barrow has to carry a lot more than just a single, large item, it has to carry a complete carp equipment for sometimes a week of fishing.
The barrow's are made in a way that they are folded and disassembled easily, so that they fit in almost every car. They are made to carry the bedchair, holdall, brolly, bags and much more. This makes a barrow essential for the fanatic carp angler.
Also of the carp barrows, there are different models and they all have its own characteristics. To start, the wheel and handles are often detachable because they take up a large amount of space. The way to detach the wheel and handles is important, because it has to be done simple and quick. It sounds simple, not it is not simple for every model. Especially the wheel is an item which is for some models not easy to detach, this is why this is often underestimated and brings frustration.
Next to that you have to question yourself if you want 1 or 2 wheels under your carp barrow. A 2 wheel barrow is a lot more stabile, especially when it is fully packed. But an 1 wheel barrow is a lot more maneuverable, which is needed for certain fishing spots.
There also many kinds of accessories for the carp barrow. Think of bags which can be attached to the barrow, elastics or rain covers. Elastics or even elastic nets become in handy when your carp tackle is not supported all around, so they can fall of easily. They are also cheap and easy to attach.
The use of bags and rain covers has of course its advantages and its disadvantages, but these are mainly personal and don't need any explanation.
Tip: We often see that the carp barrow is the first item which is put in the car for a fishing trip, because it fits nicely flat on the bottom of your trunk. But just the barrow has to be packed at the end, and should be put on top of your other carp luggage so you can get the barrow first at arrival out of the car and after that put the luggage on the barrow. Otherwise, you have to put your luggage first on the ground and after that have to put it again on your barrow. A simple tip, but still not used often.
