Braided line for trout fishing

Braided line for trout fishing

Like the name is already suggesting, a braided line consists of multiple thin lines which are braided to 1. These lines are not made of monofilament, but made from a plastic fibre (often a dyneema fibre). Because it is braided, it has no stretch in it and you will therefore feel every little nibble. The braided characteristic will also make it a lot more stronger than nylon lines. Of course you will not take a higher breaking strength, but you will need the same breaking streangth as with a nylon line, only now you have much lower diameter.
Of course there are also disadvantages. The first is the low abrasiveness, which means that fishing on spots with many obstacles a braided fishing line is not recommended. Also, a braided line is far from invisable under water, which can scare of the trout. At last, braided lines are much more expensive than nylon lines.

The choice for the best braided line for trout fishing depends on the size of the trout. You first have to look at the breaking strength. We advise you to take a breaking strength of at least 2.5 till 6 KG. To give you an idea of which diameter comes with that breaking strength, you can think of 0.06 till 0.12mm. More importantly to know is that the breaking strength for a certain diameter can differ a lot per brand. The high quality brands have a higher breaking strength with a low diameter.

Eventually, the important advantage of a braided line is the nice thin diameter with a high breaking strength, but the line has a high visability and rather expensive.
